Food Pantry Eligibility Requirements

Text Box: What’s Needed For Food Pantry Benefits? We try and make every effort to help all that are in need and be of assistance to anyone that ask for help. Unfortunately there are always a few that try and take advantage of our food pantry. As a result some requirements have to be in place to alleviate this situation. Lockport Township is a large supporter of the food pantry, and ask us to serve clients that reside in Lockport Township of Illinois. All of the churches, groups and individuals that so graciously donate food and money understand that their donations are going for there local neighbors in need. What Should I Bring With Me? We do our best to make your initial visit to our food pantry as easy as possible. A small interview is conducted by one of our staff volunteers to determine what exactly we can do to help. All clients have different needs and the interview enables us to get our new clients headed in the right direction to receive maximum benefits. The clients have to present two types of proof of residency in either Lockport or Homer Townships, to qualify for food pantry benefits. The easiest proof would possibly be a current electric, gas, or water bill. A drivers license is not proof of residency. Clients after being accepted for benefits are able to visit the food pantry once per month. We try to supply enough food for our clients for a two week period. Any Other Benefits than Food? Under certain situations the Lockport Township Supervisor’s Office may be able to assist people in different ways than we can. During your initial interview our staff will be able to determine your eligibility for further benefits and inform you of the procedure in obtaining them. The Circle of Love that is operated by the First United Methodist Church of Lockport is open every Wednesday between 9AM and Noon. They supply diapers and personal hygiene products. A referral from the Lockport Fish Food Pantry is needed.
